Two Corona de Mar homes owned by the descendants of James Irvine have sold for a total of $55 million.

The homes, owned by the heirs of James Irvine, whose Irvine Ranch once took up 100,000 acres in Orange County, are located on Avocado Avenue on Newport Harbor. The “Big Blue House,” named for its Bermuda blue color, was built in the 1930s. The Big Blue House, which features 3,500 square feet, four bedrooms and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Newport Harbor, sold for $35 million, tying it in 3rd place for the most expensive home sale in Orange County.

The other home was built in 1987 and boasts 7,000 square feet and six bedrooms and sold for $20 million.

The Irvine family founded the Irvine Co. real estate firm and has made some big sales in the past few years. Another home once owned by the Irvine family located on Bayside Drive and known as the “Big Blue Pool House” sold for $12 million in 2012.

The record for the highest price paid for a single home currently stands at $45 million for a 2.3-acre property in Laguna Beach which sold in February 2016. That record could be shattered if a Newport Coast estate sells for its asking price of $55 million. The home on Pelican Hill Road boasts eight bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, a private lake, tennis court, vineyards and a horse stable. The estate, once named Villa del Lago, sits on 12.5-acres, making it the largest private home parcel in Newport, in addition to its record-setting asking price.
